The Santiam Canyon Long Term Recovery Group has accomplished its mission.
Santiam canyon Long Term Recovery - Mission Accomplished
After years of supporting wildfire recovery efforts throughout the Santiam Canyon, the Santiam Long Term Recovery Group has concluded its active recovery operations as of 12/31/26.
Formed in response to the devastating 2020 Labor Day wildfires, the Santiam Long Term Recovery Group brought together community members, nonprofit organizations, agencies, donors, volunteers, and service providers with one shared goal: helping individuals, families, and communities recover and rebuild.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to this effort.
While the Long Term Recovery Group is no longer operating as an active organization, recovery resources and support remain available throughout the Santiam Canyon.
Recovery Continues
Recovery after a disaster of this magnitude happens one home, one property, one family, and one community at a time.
Approximately 721 residential properties were destroyed in the 2020 wildfires.
Since then:
372 properties have experienced rebuilding activity
179 fire-impacted residential properties have changed ownership
Many additional properties have seen improvements, including electrical service, septic systems, RV use, site development, and other investments that demonstrate continued progress throughout the Canyon.
While every recovery story is different, these numbers reflect something important:
The Santiam Canyon continues to rebuild, reinvest, and move forward.
Recovery figures are approximate. Some categories may overlap because of property transactions, permitting activity, and unique circumstances associated with individual properties.
